Yellowstone park is a massive caldera. As a matter of fact, it's the biggest caldera on the entire planet.
Beneath the caldera, enough magma is building to cover most of the continental United States and northern Mexico with 3 inches of lava.
Geologists claim that on average it has erupted like clockwork every 640,000 years....the last one was 653,000 years ago. We are overdue.
Were it to errupt..actually, let me change that...WHEN it erupts, it will destroy the United States. If you are American, count yourself lucky because your death will be mercifully quick.
If you live elsewhere on this planet, you can look foreward to a winter that lasts 500 years and another ice age..but you will starve long before that.
Want more to deny and avoid? Try this...since 1929, the ground at Yellowstone has risen more than 23 feet, and continues to do so.. It's bulging.
